Hello my Winterpark peeps,
This is just a quick newsletter to wish you all the best of luck for 2010!
I'm on holidays in Perth at the moment, but have found some time to get the headphones on, and make some interesting sonic textures whilst overlooking the beach at Ledge Point. I'm sure will end up in some new tracks once i get back to Melbourne.
As promised in the last newsletter, I've uploaded a video clip of the live solo performance I did a month or two back, which you may want to watch on Youtube. Feel free to rate it or comment or whatnot.
Anyway, I wish you a healthy, happy and creative year, and i'll be in touch in January with some more (hopefully BIG) news.
:)Matt

subscription email update Sept 09
It's been a while since i've sent anything, and i've been a bit quiet on the music front of late...so i guess i better fill in the gaps.
Earier this year, Jordy, who has been part of the Winterpark live and recording experience from very early days, decided she wanted to leave to follow her hearts desires elsewhere. I totally respect her decision, and there is absolutely no ill-feeling between us.
This has, however, left me doing quite a lot of soul-searching as to what to do with Winterpark.
Then i realized i was thinking too much, so i stopped that, and just started to enjoy the process of making music again.
So, I'm still not sure what my next move is, but I know that i'm going to enjoy doing it, and that it'll keep going!
Anyway, part of my music-making over the last few years has been an involvement with the OUTPOST collective, which is a bunch of laptop musicians, who get together and improvise each month at Bar Open in Fitzroy.
Each month they have a feature artist do a slot, so I thought i'd set myself a challenge, and work towards creating a set of completely new material, with just me, my guitar, laptop and voice, and put my hand up for one of these feature artist slots.
So, the time has come...wednesday 30th sept...It shoud be a fun night, and it's free, and it's part of the Fringe Festival, and the other act playing on the night is 'Random acts of Elevator Music', which should be an absolute hoot! so yes... fun to me had!
I've attached the official blurb (see below...)
But I also want to point out that I plan on posting some video online of the performance, so if you're interstate, or overseas, or with new born children, or just can't be bothered going out on a Wednesday anymore, then please check it out that way... just join the facebook group, or twitter page, or myspace page... and i'll get a post a link to it over the next month.

Outpost Sept 30th
September OUTPOST is upon us and we have an awesome lineup for this months event which is presented by the Melbourne Fringe.
It all happens Wednesday September 30 from 8:30pm at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.
Entry is free and the a/v jams are on between feature artists so bring your gear and have no fear!
2 feature artists this month... (one of them being me!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Random Acts of Elevator Music make rare out-of-office-hours appearance…
Taking a break from a heavy work schedule of daytime elevator performances in Melbourne’s office buildings, Random Acts of Elevator Music bring their live muzaktronica to Outpost at Bar Open on Wednesday September the 30th. Experience these soothing oscillations and melodies and enjoy your resultant increase in productivity.
Random Acts of Elevator Music is the latest project from City Frequencies, a collaboration between Matt Adair and Nick Wilson, who work together on sound projects within the metropolitan environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Winterpark (solo)
Begun in 2005 as a collaborative musical studio project by Melbourne musician Matt Ridgway, Winterpark soon evolved into a live band that merged elements of sound design, pop, electronica and noise. 2006 saw the release of the debut album 'One Night Alone'. 2007 saw the band take on the world with an adventure that saw them film a clip in the back alleys of Brooklyn, play at Iceland's airwaves festival parties for free drinks, carry equipment on the Paris underground to play Parties, travel to Prague to play at a bookstore, and write songs in a makeshift apartment in Berlin.
2008 saw Winterpark back on home turf, independently releasing 'Falling Men and Flying Dreams' and a subsequent east coast album launch tour.
2009 brings a new chapter, with Matt creating melodic, ambient, layered, textural music with heavily processed guitar, vocals and live laptop. Playing at OUTPOST as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival. Wednesday Sept 30th.
